Iran said Monday that the Strait of Hormuz will not return to pre-war conditions and energy markets will remain unsettled, according to Tasnim news agency citing an Iranian official.
The official said no negotiations with the U.S. are currently under way, either directly or through intermediaries, according to reports from both Tasnim and Fars News Agency.
Tasnim reported that U.S. President Donald Trump backed down from attacking critical Iranian infrastructure amid financial market pressure. The report added that Tehran would continue to defend itself until it achieves deterrence.
Earlier on Monday, Fars, which is considered to be closely affiliated with Iran’s current regime, reported that Trump retreated after hearing that Iran would target all power plants in West Asia.
